Spring. Food, matters for friendship.

Honestly, we had something fun playing with food more than having a meal together. It has been challenging last April 2020 but we did so many things at home. Making potato stamps, coloring easter eggs, enjoying Zoom aperitivo, and Marghi’s online birthday party. It wasn’t just about playing with food, it brought up loads of conversation between us. Some pictures bring me memories that she made such beautiful creations even during that time. I always appreciate how she views food. It is pure, simple, and fun.

Almost every season, my family used to go to the East sea for vacation. The last time I was there in 2019, I spent a wonderful time seeing the golden waves till the sun comes up. Who could have imagined that it’s gonna be the last? In the middle of the lockdown I was about to flee from Italy and eagerly hoping to be there facing the sea breeze, I came up with an idea to bring that place to our home by using food. I shared some pictures and videos of that time with Marghi, and from that time it was totally up to her own interpretation.

This first series of Memory and Food is on my website. Since my motivation for studying food design started from good memories, why not twist the order and reinterpret our memories with food? I look forward to going on with this subject involving all the different memories of people around me.

Summer. Fruits for conversation.

If you visit Italy in August, you can have fruits with the peak of sweetness, ripeness, and richness. A week before going to London in 2020, we visited her friend Simone in Liguria for a short trip. Fico di India, figs, melons, watermelons … Unlike how we usually cut watermelons into cubes and put them in containers, it was also quite a new experience to cut them on the plate with a fork and knife. It is good enough for enjoying a watermelon either way. I made the best of the vacation to try all juicylicious fruit and filled my happiness.

As the taste of that Summer, our conversation was deep and earnest. On a curved beach with huge rocks, we talked about our dreams, reflecting the fun episodes that we had last Spring. Marghi moved to Stockholm chasing one of her dreams. In Korea, we say hello to friends by asking literally ‘Are you eating and living well?’, Marghi?
